The trip to lough dan
Wednesday 13th September
On the morning of our Junior Cert results the excitement and anxiety was uncontrollable across the school. As my name was called to collect the white envelope I was really nervous. I ran outside to my mum’s car quickly before anyone asked what I had got. As I opened the envelope my hand was shaking. I showed my mum my results and I was really very relieved and happy, as was my mum.
I travelled to Lough Dan a very proud boy with the rest of my year group. Every year 4th year in Gerard's students go on a camping trip straight after they get their Junior Cert results instead of being at home. Since I broke my collar bone the weekend before I wasn't really sure if I was going to be able to do the whole camping trip which is for two nights...but I wanted to test myself.
Upon our arrival at Lough Dan, we were greeted with this luscious green scenery surrounding us from all sides. We all quickly ran to get our tent set up in a good location. I was staying in a tent with three close friends of mine Rory Brady, Max Merren and Ben Moroney. My friends immediately began the torturous process of setting up our tent without me, as I could do not do it with a broken collarbone. I sat down, eating biscuits, supervising the other 3 boys. As soon as the tent was made it started to rain heavily so we ran straight to our tent and waited for the rain to stop. When the sun shone again Rory started to cook us lunch which was pasta bolognese. It was the nicest bolognese I ever had, Rory was the best chef of the whole camping trip.
After lunch we went on our 6 km walk which was cold and wet. During the 6 km walk my collar bone got very sore and that was when I realised that I needed to go home. So after the walk I had Max's delicious burger and got picked up by my mum and that was the end of my camping trip. I was devastated that I couldn't stay for the rest of the trip and couldn't count it for my Gaisce as it meant I have to go camping some other time.
Even though I could only stay for one day I still had a enjoyable time. All my friends told they had a good time and told me all the they did during the trip. Probably, the best thing for me was getting results that I was proud of.

Kairo
On Friday the 13th of October my class attended the Kairos Communications programme in Maynooth. Kairos Communications has functioned for more than 30 years as a media production and training facility. The idea of the trip was to film a short piece of with the entire class involved. Our class decided on filming "the 4d news", and "The Jeremy Kyle show" .
My role for the day was the Cameraman. I was guided by our director Sarah Murphy on what kind of camera shot i had to take on the actors. I was taught how to do three camera shots, the head and shoulder shot, the close up shot and out shot. I was also taught how to focus a camera.
We spent the whole day practicing and rehearsing I found it really fun and would really love to do something like this again. The day was really worthwhile with a lot of laughs throughout. I really enjoyed it and have definitely benefited from what I learnt from being a cameraman . You have to move around the place and get in the right position very quickly. Also had to listen to Sarah Murphy the director carefully so I could get the right angle of the shot. I think our show turned out very well and am proud to share it with others.

carlingford
Monday the 19th of February all of Transition Year left the school for Carlingford at around 9am. The bus ride was an hour and a half. We arrived and were told the rooms. I was with Josh, Hugo Vicente and Wolfgang .The year was split into two groups, A and B. I was in group B.The activities planned for group B on the first day was laser tag in the woods and our night activity was a murder mystery around the town. It was a shame because during the murder mystery it rained for the entire activity. After that my shoes and clothes were soaked so I had a shower and went to bed .
Every morning we had to wake up at 8 and have breakfast. Tuesday’s activities were the sky park which was an obstacle course in the air. The next activity was canoeing in the sea but it was too cold which didn't make it too enjoyable. We canoed from one side of the harbour to the other. Our night activity was called Carlingford activities. It was super fun .
Wednesday was teamwork day which consisted of different activities in the morning and after lunch we did high ropes which was super fun. Wednesday night was my favourite night activity. We did a night line walk in the wood. We were all blindfolded and we had to hold a rope in one hand and our other hand was on the shoulder of the person in-front of us. We walked on tyres and crawled under stuff.
Our last day(Thursday) came so fast . The first activity was zip it which was a bunch of zip lines going over the quarry and through the woods. The final activity of the trip was a mixture of archery, frisbee golf and aero ball. Unfortunately we had to leave at 6:30 that night.
This was an amazing trip. It was great because everyone got along really well. My favourite activity without a doubt was the laser tag.
