Miny company talk
On Wednesday the 20th of September an entrepreneur named Margaret Ochtar came in to talk to us about our mini company projects. Most of us students chose some form of business subject for our leaving cert so we were all eager to hear her professional advice on the project. The mini company project gives transistor year students a chance to become independent and professional. Through setting up your own company, thinking of product ideas and try to sell your product to make a profit
Ur mini company's can be entered into a National Competition and we can win huge prizes. Margaret gave her advice on how to carefully make your product a success.I think many of us had ideas for our mini company but were unsure where to start. To help us think of ideas in the future she set up a exercise where she divided us into groups and gave each group a paper clip. We had to try to think of ways that a paper clip can be useful. This helped us realised that there are a lot of materials out there that create many products.
I felt Margaret's talk was very helpful for me as I got a better understanding of mini company also helped me think of ideas for mini company
IT is not just for Geeks! - 29/09/17
On Friday morning we got a talk from two employees from DELL, the computer company. We were greeted by Marie and Aidan in the Halla Nua .The overall aim of the talk was to show us the different industries that IT is used in and that it is not just for 'geeks'.
They began the presentation by introducing themselves and giving us a background of what their Job is and how they got their job today In my opinion, the pair were really good public speakers they added knowledge aswell as enjoyment in the talk which really got me a better understanding of how useful it is in jobs.
The talk consisted of a few videos to help us understand the concept. They even allowed group discussion on what job we think we will do when we are older in which prizes could be won such as portable chargers and USB keys. As someone who is really interested in technology , Marie and Aidan grabbed my attention to the industries in technology

Martial Arts ~ 23/10/17 - 24/10/17
Martial Arts was a two day self defense training course hosted by a man named Daragh. We spent the beginning of our Monday morning in the Halla Nua where we were given a presentation on attacks. He showed us videos of ppl getting attacked in so many different ways example was getting hit by a beer bottle and what the up coming course consisted of. Once we had had our break we made our way to the sports hall where the training began. The group was split into 10 lines with roughly 8 people in each. The person at the top of the line was given a padded circle with straps on the back of it. The rest of the people in the line would approach the pad held by the first member and proceed to do the given exercise on it. It started with palm hits, then elbow and hammer strikes, then came the knee strikes and by the end of the first day, we could successfully put someone on the floor and block a Haymaker punch. The final aspect of the day was wrestling matches which I did not participate in as I my just recently just got backed into contact sport because of my collar bone and didn't want to risk it . I really enjoyed the first day. Day two began and ended in the Sports Hall. We started with a recap of everything we had done the day before and soon we paired up to learn how to correctly punch and kick. It was a very good thing to learn martial as I now know how to defend my self if someone attacks me.
